The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released new traffic crash data for 2015, and Georgia drivers might be surprised that the number of deaths rose 7.2 percent compared to the previous year. This is the biggest single-year jump since 1966.
The NHTSA statistics show that 35,092 people lost their lives in car accidents in 2015. According to officials, the amount of auto accident deaths has decreased 25 percent over the last decade, when there were 42,708 road fatalities. The decline is thanks to people using seat belts more, enhanced safety features in vehicles and fewer cases of drunk driving.
