Car accidents happen every day in Georgia, though not all of them have severe consequences. Those that do can leave victims suffering physically, emotionally and financially. Recently, a 29-year-old man was arrested in relation to two car accidents that left several people, including himself, injured.
Both accidents occurred mid-August in Richmond Country. According to local law enforcement, deputies were called to the scene of a possible hit-and-run collision on a local roadway. It is unknown if anyone was injured in that incident. While investigating the crash, officers received a call regarding another collision that occurred on Interstate 20, believed to have been caused by the same driver involved in the hit-and-run accident. Upon arriving at the location of the second collision, investigators found two vehicles overturned.
Several individuals, including the person believed to be responsible for both accidents, were injured in the second incident -- all of whom required hospitalization. According to authorities, charges will likely be filed for both accidents. The possible charges include DUI and reckless driving, along with driving with a suspended license.
Car accidents that result in serious injury can require a significant amount of time and money to recover from. Those injured in these accidents retain the right to file personal injury claims against the driver deemed responsible for the collisions. If liability is established before a civil court in Georgia, monetary compensation may be granted for each successfully litigated claim -- providing for medical expenses, pain and suffering and any other damages deemed recoverable under state laws.
