As the number of semi trailers on the roads increase, accidents with them also increase. In passenger car versus commercial truck accidents, there is a good chance that the truck will do the most damage, simply from a size and weight standpoint. These incidents are growing in number, not only in Georgia but nationwide, and individuals involved in these accidents often face severe injury or even death.
A recent accident that occurred in Coweta County is a prime example of the destruction a semi trailer can cause to smaller vehicles. The local fire department was called to the scene of a car versus semi accident on an Interstate highway. When responders arrived, they found a car crushed underneath a big rig. An off-duty nurse had already pulled the driver of the car from their vehicle, and medical crews rushed that individual to Atlanta Medical Center with multiple traumatic injuries.
Details surrounding the cause of the accident are still unknown. No other injuries were reported. Police have not released a statement in regard to any citations or charges pending against either driver in this case.
Injuries from truck accidents, like those suffered in this incident, often require extensive medical treatment and rehabilitation. Both come at a significant cost and require time away from work and family. In this particular case, the injured individual may be entitled to file a personal injury claim in a Georgia civil court against the truck driver and the driver's employer -- depending upon what the evidence documents. A successfully litigated claim can result in compensation for any financial losses sustained as a result of the accident.
